Dick’s faces new golf competitor
ROSWELL, Ga. — Dick’s Sporting Goods is looking at increased competition in its core Northeastern markets as PGA Tour Superstore prepares for the grand opening of its first retail location in Paramus, N.J.
The 57,000-sq.-ft. store will open its doors Wed., Nov. 21, and offer a wide selection of golf merchandise and apparel, including more than 15,000 golf clubs and 10,000 pairs of shoes for every level of golf and tennis enthusiast.
The PGA Tour Superstore will be located on Route 17 South and the Garden State Parkway, and will offer an estimated 10,000 indoor golf lessons per year. Using state-of-the-art technology in the store's eight swing simulators, golfers can learn about their golf ball flight, swing speed, launch angle and more in a climate-controlled environment. "Virtual reality" experiences will provide golfers with the opportunity to play some of the world's best courses without ever leaving Paramus. Additionally, golfers will receive a personalized DVD of each lesson to review at home. The store also boasts a 3,000-sq.-ft. putting green for lessons, practice and product demonstrations.
Other features of the Paramus PGA Tour Superstore include a year-round indoor practice range accessible through an annual Players Club membership fee; frequent product demonstrations throughout the year by manufacturers of the latest golf equipment; and on-site repair facilities for re-gripping, loft lie adjustments and club re-shafting.
PGA Tour Superstore will offer leading brands such as Titleist, TaylorMade, Callaway, PING, Nike, Cobra, PUMA, adidas, Vineyard Vines, Tommy Bahama, Cleveland, Srixon, Adams, Mizuno, FootJoy, Bridgestone, ecco, PGA TOUR, Wilson, Prince, Babolat and Under Armour.
"We are thrilled to open our first store in the Northeast, not only in advance of the holiday shopping season, but just in time for the winter, so golfers in the New York and New Jersey metro areas can fine tune their game throughout the winter months, regardless of the cold weather we may encounter," said Dick Sullivan, president and CEO of PGA Tour Superstore. "Within a year of opening, every one of our Superstores across the U.S. has proven to become a market leader in year-round instruction, repair and competitive merchandise prices; we expect nothing less in Paramus."
The Paramus location is the company’s fifteenth store. The superstores are owned and operated by Golf & Tennis Pro Shop, Inc., whose controlling owner and chairman is Arthur M. Blank, retired Home Depot co-founder and current owner of the Atlanta Falcons. "Paramus is the perfect location to open our newest retail store because of its central location for residents in the New York and New Jersey region," said Blank. "We're looking forward to building relationships in the community and providing a high level of expertise to golf and tennis enthusiasts."
