Foss, who has served on the Sports Authority board of directors since 2009, has more than 30 years of diverse experience in the financial and general management operations of public and private companies in the retail, technology and customer service industries. Most recently, he was EVP and CFO at Petco Animal Supplies. Leonard Green & Partners, the majority owner of Sports Authority, is also a large shareholder in Petco.

“Mike is a proven leader in retail who we have worked with for the past six years at Petco. He comes to Sports Authority with an intimate knowledge of the company and its recent activities from his role on the company’s board,” said Jonathan Sokoloff, managing partner, Leonard Green & Partners. “He will be an excellent leader for the company going forward as we continue to strengthen the business model and drive innovation across our national footprint of stores.”

Prior to his tenure with Petco Animal Supplies, Foss was CFO at Circuit City Stores, preceded by various leadership positions at Teletech Holdings Corporation, Kodak, Rally’s and IBM. Foss received his MBA from the University of Michigan. He and his wife will be relocating to Denver as he takes on his new role.

“On behalf of Leonard Green & Partners and the board of directors of Sports Authority, we thank Darrell for his significant contributions to Sports Authority throughout the past several years and congratulate him on an outstanding career and wish him the very best in his retirement,” added Sokoloff.
