Even though Target’s efforts in the electronics area have been overshadowed of late by all the action in food and consumables, the company has consistently positioned itself to become a more relevant player in the space.
Shoppers in Charlotte, Columbus, Portland, Fresno, Norfolk and New Orleans are gaining access to a new alternative for food and consumables, as Target’s PFresh prototype arrives in those markets through a combination of recent remodeling activity and upcoming store openings.
Target has announced plans to remodel several stores in the Charlotte area. According to the company, the remodeling will begin March 27 and will add such features as open-market fresh food layout, complete a selection of fresh produce, fresh meat and baked goods. The new layout also includes reinventions in several other areas throughout the store such as beauty, home, baby and shoes.

Target's deal with Lady Gaga may have fallen through, but that doesn't mean the retailer has lost its ability to court the music industry. Japan may be a wealthy country, but as the death toll there continues to rise, major U.S. corporations are stepping up with significant donations and Target is among them. The company last week announced it would contribute $500,000 to Save the Children, an organization that is aiding with Japan’s earthquake and tsunami relief efforts.

That wasn’t good enough for Lady Gaga who backed out of an exclusive arrangement with Target and in the process will probably sell even more albums by endearing herself further to her most loyal fans. Then this past week comes news that Target was recognized by an organization called the Ethisphere Institute as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies.
Target has enlisted the services of Microsoft to help run business-critical workloads for all its retail stores on 15,000 virtual machines using Microsoft virtualization and management technologies, giving its IT department greater agility and economies of scale, Microsoft announced.
