The Home Depot has opened a new direct fulfillment center (DFC) in the Locust Grove suburb of Atlanta.

The Home Depot has opened a new direct fulfillment center (DFC) in the Locust Grove suburb of Atlanta.

It is the first of three new DFCs the company will open across the U.S. in the next two years, adding more than 3 million sq. ft. and approximately 1,000 jobs to its supply chain. The new distribution centers will increase the number of orders the company can ship the day they are received, increasing the speed of delivery for HomeDepot.com orders.

The Home Depot reportedly plans to invest $300 million on technology and supply chain upgrades during its fiscal year 2014, which begins in February 2014. According to the Wall Street Journal, the results will include three new fulfillment centers in California, Atlanta and Ohio by 2016, as well as same-day shipping for some online orders.

ATLANTA — Diet Coke is launching a limited-edition T-shirt available exclusively in Target stores.

The T-shirt is the winning design from the second season of the Diet Coke Young Designer Challenge. Part of the brand’s “Stay Extraordinary” platform, the challenge required participants to create an original T-shirt design inspired by Taylor Swift’s style and people who drink Diet Coke. Hundreds of designs from across the country were submitted.

On Monday, Sept. 2, M&M'S will invite fans to drive their own vehicle two full laps around the storied mile and a half track. Following their rides, fans can have their vehicles photographed at the track.

James Petty has joined private equity owned Vestis Retail Group as CEO, effective July 8, to drive new growth opportunities.

Petty joins Vestis, parent company of Bob’s Stores and Eastern Mountain Sports, after serving since 2007 as president of retail stores for Carter’s Inc. Petty left Carter’s last December after a restructuring resulted in Carter’s relocating its retail group to its Atlanta headquarters from Connectticut. Prior to Carter’s, Petty held senior roles at Limited Too and Gap, Inc.

Moore, 47, was recently named chief of internal audit, effective May 1, replacing Connie McDaniel who is retiring after 24 years with the company. Moore is currently global director of finance operations in global business services. She began her career with the company in 1995 and has assumed roles of increasing responsibility including senior audit manager in corporate audit and director of financial reporting in the controller’s group.
