Sherwin-Williams chairman and CEO Christopher M. Connor said strong performance in the paint stores group helped fuel consolidated net sales in the first quarter, with a slight offset on domestic sales thanks to severe weather.

Sherwin-Williams chairman and CEO Christopher M. Connor said strong performance in the paint stores group helped fuel consolidated net sales in the first quarter, with a slight offset on domestic sales thanks to severe weather.

The company reported a slight drop in net income during the first quarter of fiscal 2014, to $115.46 million from $116.18 million. Net sales fared better, rising 9% to $2.37 billion from $2.17 billion.

Sherwin-Williams expects consolidated net sales to rise 8%-14% in the second quarter.

The company increased net income 12%, to $262.97 million from $234.95 million, during the third quarter of fiscal 2013.

Net sales grew 9.4% to $2.85 billion from $2.6 billion.

Cleveland-based Sherwin-Williams Co. reported a sales increase of 1.4% in the first quarter ended March 31, thanks to higher volume in the Paint Stores Group.

Cleveland-based Sherwin-Williams Co. reported a sales increase of 1.4% in the first quarter ended March 31, thanks to higher volume in the Paint Stores Group.

Net income increased 16% to $116.2 million.

The company's consolidated net sales increased 1.4% to $2.17 billion. The Paint Stores Group saw sales increase 4.0% to $1.17 billion in the quarter. The company pointed to higher architectural paint sales volume across all end-market segments. Comp-store sales for paint stores increased 3.2%.
