Apple has tapped Foster + Partners to refresh its store design, according to a report by Marketing.

New York -- Apple has tapped Foster + Partners to refresh its store design, according to a report by Marketing.

The London-based architectural company has a history with Apple. It was hired by the late Steve Jobs to help design and create Apple’s new UFO-styled corporate headquarters, which is still under construction.

Apple bites off European retailer for new leadership

Apple Monday named a replacement for former retail head Ron Johnson, who left the company last year to become CEO of JCPenney.

CUPERTINO, Calif. — Apple Monday named a replacement for former retail head Ron Johnson, who left the company last year to become CEO of JCPenney. The company announced that John Browett will join the company as SVP retail, reporting to Apple CEO Tim Cook. Browett comes to Apple from European technology retailer Dixons Retail, where he has been CEO since 2007. Beginning in April, he will be responsible for Apple’s retail strategy and the continued expansion of Apple retail stores around the world, the company said in a press release.

Sears Holdings equipping store associates with iPads and iPod Touch devices

Sears Holdings has begun the staged roll out of Apple iPads and Apple iPod Touch devices, starting with nearly 450 stores nationwide. The move is designed enhance the relationship between customers and associates while improving the overall in-store shopping experience, Sears said.

Apple on Sunday rolled out dedicated iPad stations in its stores nationwide.

NEW YORK — Apple on Sunday rolled out dedicated iPad stations in its stores nationwide. The iPads are positioned near products for customers to use as tools for comparision shopping and customer assistance. 

Apple's in-store iPads, which feature a special in-store app, are designed to answer questions from customers and keep them in the store. Customers can also tap a button for help and the photo of an available sales assistant pops up with a promise that he or she will be over shortly to help.

The iPad is an amazing product that offers a wonderful user experience, which is why everyone wants one. It also doesn’t hurt that retailers of all types have become quite aggressive in their promotional efforts on behalf of Apple, since the popular device makes a meaningful contribution to sales in addition to providing those retailers who feature the device with some of that Apple “it” factor.

Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Inc., has taken a medical leave of absence, Apple announced Monday.

CUPERTINO, Calif. -- Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Inc., has taken a medical leave of absence, Apple announced Monday.

According to an SEC filing, Jobs will remain involved in major strategic decisions during this leave of absence, and COO Tim Cook will be responsible for Apple's day-to-day operations. 

In a letter to company employees, Jobs wrote, "I love Apple so much and hope to be back as soon as I can. In the meantime, my family and I would deeply appreciate respect for our privacy."

The study, the OC&C Proposition Strength Index (the "Index"), surveyed over 2,700 U.S. consumers in an effort to understand consumer sentiment toward 50 of the country's leading retailers. The survey rates how consumers view core elements of a retailer's value proposition -- such as Value for Money, Customer Service, Product Selection and Product Quality.
