Bebe Stores had a difficult second quarter. The company reported a net loss of $5.5 million, which it said was partly fueled by declining mall traffic and an aggressive promotional environment across the industry.

Net sales declined 4.1% to $130 million, from $135.5 million reported for the second quarter a year ago. Same-store sales decreased 1.9%.

CEO Steve Birkhold acknowledged challenges, but cited sequential improvement in same-store sales and holiday sales, as well.

Global specialty retailer Bebe reported retail sales of $109 million for the fourth fiscal quarter ended July 6, a decrease of 8.5% compared to $119.1 million for the fiscal quarter ended June 30, 2012.

BRISBANE, Calif. — Global specialty retailer Bebe reported retail sales of $109 million for the fourth fiscal quarter ended July 6, a decrease of 8.5% compared to $119.1 million for the fiscal quarter ended June 30, 2012. 

Comparable store sales for the quarter decreased 7.1% compared to a decrease of 2.5% in the fourth fiscal quarter of the prior year. The decrease was primarily driven by the negative comparable store traffic during the quarter, with April being the most negative.

Singh has been an entrepreneur, hands-on executive, adviser and deal-maker for more than 20 years, with a focus on launching and growing businesses in the digital entertainment, new media, e-commerce and software sectors. Singh was recently selected by the United Nations Foundation as one of their Top 10 “Global Entrepreneurs” and will serve as their entrepreneurship and innovation ambassador for two years.

Bebe has appointed current principal accounting officer and VP, corporate controller Liyuan Woo as its new CFO.

BRISBANE, Calif. — Bebe has appointed current principal accounting officer and VP, corporate controller Liyuan Woo as its new CFO. 

 

Woo has been with Bebe stores since 2010. She will retain the principal accounting officer title and will be responsible for global finance, accounting, treasury, tax, compliance, planning and strategic corporate development. She will report directly to CEO Steve Birkhold.

Steve Birkhold was named CEO at Bebe on the same day that the company reported a worse than expected second quarter loss and a 10.5% comp decline.

BRISBANE, Calif. — Steve Birkhold was named CEO at Bebe on the same day that the company reported a worse than expected second quarter loss and a 10.5% comp decline.

Birkhold, who previously served as president and CEO at Lacoste, will be tasked with leading a turnaround at the struggling specialty retailer.

Women's apparel retailer Bebe stores Inc. said Emilia Fabricant, president, has resigned from the company for personal reasons.

BRISBANE, Calif. — Women's apparel retailer Bebe stores Inc. said Emilia Fabricant, president, has resigned from the company for personal reasons.

Her duties have been taken over by chairman and CEO Manny Mashouf and Renee Bell, the company's head of merchandising. Fabricant joined the company in August 2010.

The company runs 246 stores under the Bebe and 2b Bebe names.
