'Project Runway' judge brings fashion expertise to JCPenney

JCPenney has enlisted the services of Nina Garcia, a well-known fashion expert to help the company become more of a style destination.

PLANO, Texas — JCPenney has enlisted the services of Nina Garcia, a well-known fashion expert to help the company become more of a style destination. Garcia, who serves as fashion director of Marie Claire and as a judge on the fashion reality show, "Project Runway," will serve as the company's resident style voice and fashion collection curator.

Report: Spending Index declines in May

A report released Tuesday by Deloitte said that consumer spending continued its decline in May, weighed down by a sharp rise in unemployment claims.

NEW YORK— Deloitte reported a decline in its monthly consumer spending index, as consumers were weighed down by a sharp rise in unemployment claims.

The Deloitte Consumer Spending Index, which tracks consumer cash flow as an indicator of future consumer spending, fell to 2.66%, from a gain of 3.29% in April. The Index is comprised of tax burden, initial unemployment claims, real wages and real home prices.

Unemployment rate dips to 8.9%

The unemployment rate dipped from 9.0% in January to 8.9% in February, according to data released Friday morning by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Construction employment grew by 33,000 in February, following a decline of 22,000 in January that may have reflected severe winter weather, according to the bureau. Within construction, specialty trade contractors accounted for the bulk of the February job gain (+28,000).

 NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — More than two-thirds of Americans are worried about losing their minds, according to a recent poll released Monday. Or rather, 69% of Americans are concerned about maintaining a healthy, active and sharp mind, the survey, conducted by Opinion Research Corporation on behalf of Pharmavite, found. Almost as many respondents (68%) reported having experienced some form of cognitive decline.
