INDIANAPOLIS — Banana Boat sunscreen is riding shotgun with Target-sponsored Chip Ganassi Racing for the second year in row at the 2013 Izod IndyCar Series. The sunscreen products producer is leveraging the partnership to market its Banana Boat Sport Performance CoolZone sunscreen and Banana Boat Protect and Hydrate Sunscreen lotions. 

Target couldn’t have written a better script for last weekend’s Indianapolis 500, won by Dario Franchitti in the number 50 Target Honda.

Fans of the IndyCar racing series know that Franchitti’s Honda normally bears the number 10, but in recognition of Target’s golden anniversary the car and his uniform bore the number 50. Franchitti had won the Indy 500 on two prior occasions so the fact that he was running well throughout the day was no surprise.

Dario Franchitti and the Target Chip Ganassi race team continued their dominance of the Izod IndyCar Series this year, but any planned championship celebration of a third consecutive championship was marred by the death of fellow driver Dan Wheldon this past Sunday.

Target Chip Ganassi Racing (TCGR) has partnered with the Kellogg Company to become a primary sponsor on the number 10 Indy car driven by Dario Franchitti, winner of last week’s Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg and a three-time Izod IndyCar Series champ.

Franchitti will pilot the number 10 Kellogg’s Honda Dallara for TCGR in round four of the Izod IndyCar Series in Brazil at the Itaipava Sao Paulo Indy 300 presented by Nestle on May 1 and in round 14 at the Baltimore Grand Prix on Sept. 4.

The Target brand was a big winner over the weekend, as Dario Franchitti piloted the number10 car of Target Chip Gansassi Racing to victory in the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. The race through the streets of downtown St. Petersburg, Fl, consisted of 100 laps over a 1.8 mile, 14 turn course, and the distinctive red and white Target car was featured extensively during television coverage.
