Target has found a new friend in Facebook, as the retailer has become one of the first businesses to participate in the social network's new gift card program.

SAN FRANCISCO — Target has found a new friend in Facebook, as the retailer has become one of the first businesses to participate in the social network's new gift card program.

According to a Reuters report, consumers can buy cards for their Facebook friends for use at four different businesses including Target, LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vitton SA's Jamba Juice and Darden Restaurants Inc's Olive Garden.

Whole Foods launches green gift card program

Whole Foods Market has launched two new eco-friendly gift cards, with plans to replace the recycled plastic cards that will be phased out over time.

AUSTIN, Texas — Whole Foods Market has launched two new eco-friendly gift cards, with plans to replace the  recycled plastic cards that will be phased out over time.

The new cards – one made of paper and the other of responsibly harvested wood— are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council and have a lower carbon footprint, are reusable, recyclable, compostable and require less energy to be produced.

NRF: Gift card spending to reach $27.8 billion this holiday season

Holiday shoppers are expected to spend $155.43 on average for gift cards this season, and total gift-card spending is projected to reach $27.8 billion, according to a survey released Friday by the National Retail Federation.

WASHINGTON — Holiday shoppers are expected to spend $155.43 on average for gift cards this season, and total gift-card spending is projected to reach $27.8 billion, according to a survey released Friday by the National Retail Federation.

NRF’s 2011 Holiday Consumer Intentions and Actions survey, conducted by BIGresearch, found that eight in 10 shoppers will give gift cards this year, thanks to e-gifting, instant delivery through Facebook, personalized video and mobile giving options. Average spending is expected to be the highest since 2007.

Survey: Consumers spending more for holiday, but still cautious

NEW YORK - Deloitte reported that six out of 10 (62%) of its holiday survey respondents plan to spend more or the same on the holidays, a 11 percentage point rise from Deloitte's 2009 holiday survey and the highest level since 2006.

Thirty-nine percent of those surveyed expect the economy to improve next year, down from more than half (54%) who anticipated an improvement at this time last year.
