Staples Advantage, the business-to-business division of Staples, has launched a new mobile app that lets clients order anything they need for their businesses from wherever they are.

The new app is available for iOS and Android. Consumer feedback was taken into account in the app’s development.

Users can search, shop and ship on-the-go, create shopping lists of frequently purchased items for smoother reordering, scan to automatically replenish supplies, utilize one-click order approval and view order status and package tracking.

Target’s entry into the world of video streaming with a service called Target Ticket is said to offer instant access to 15,000 titles and serve as an alternative to the Apple’s iTunes, Walmart’s Vudi and Netflix.

A 3% same store sales decline at Staples North American retail units contributed to weaker than expected second quarter results and prompted the company to reduce its full year financial forecast.

Total company sales for the quarter ended August 3, declined 2% to $5.3 billion with the closure of 103 stores in North America and Europe responsible for about half the decline. Profits for the period declined to $104 million, or 16 cents a share, two cents worse than analysts forecast, compared to $125 million, or 19 cents a share the prior year.

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — Staples was hurt by a stronger dollar and weak same-store sales in North America and Europe. 

The office products company reported that its first-quarter profit for the period ended May 4 was $169.9 million, down from $187.1 million in the year-ago period. Its results missed Wall Street forecasts.

Total sales fell 3.5% to $5.81 billion, also falling short of estimates. In North America, same-store sales were down 2% on weak demand for computers, software and technology accessories.

NEW YORK — Nook Media, a subsidiary of Barnes & Noble, has launched a new Pinterest app on Nook HD, Nook HD+, Nook Tablet and Nook Color. 

Nook Media seeks to leverage the popularity of the social media platform to keep existing users engaged as well as draw in new ones. Pinterest will come preloaded on all new devices, along with Twitter and a new Facebook for Nook app. Existing customers will be able to download the Pinterest and Twitter apps free from the Nook Store.
