Retail foot traffic decreased 1.3% in June compared to May 2013, a slight departure from recently reported positive month-over-month retail trends. However, foot traffic for June 2013 was relatively flat compared to the same month in 2012 — with an increase of 0.3%.

SAN DIEGO — Petco's National Adoption Weekend coincides with Mother's Day, and to honor mom on her special day, the retailer is showcasing moms who have adopted or fostered a pet in need while trying to find homes for pets in shelters.

Petco will hold adoption events nationwide from Saturday, May 11 through Sunday, May 12. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet pets in need of homes, speak with local adoption groups about fostering and learn how to properly care for a new pet's physical, mental, social and emotional needs.

Moms are in for a special treat this Mother’s Day, May 12, according to a survey conducted by the National Retail Federation, but another survey conducted by IBISWorld has found that Mother’s Day spending growth will be flat this year compared to last year.

NRF’s Mother’s Day spending survey conducted by BIGinsight has found consumers will spend an average of $169 on mom, up 11% from last year’s $153. Total spending is expected to reach $21 billion.

A report released by ShopperTrak found that consumers are expected to shop and buy more in the week leading up to Mother's Day than they did last year.

CHICAGO — A report released by ShopperTrak found that consumers are expected to shop and buy more in the week leading up to Mother's Day than they did last year.

According to the report, national retail sales, when compared to the same period last year, will rise 6% in the week leading up to Mother's Day, and foot traffic will increase 3.7%.

WASHINGTON — If NRF's predictions come true, moms will be in for an especially good Mother's Day this year. According to NRF’s 2012 Mother’s Day consumer spending survey conducted by BIGinsight, the average person celebrating the holiday is expected to spend $152.52 on gifts, up from $140.73 last year. Total spending is expected to reach $18.6 billion.
