More self checkouts (and customers?) coming to Walmart

NCR Corporation got a big order from Walmart this week that will allow the retailer to expand its self-checkout capability and potentially attract shoppers turned off by Walmart’s long checkout lines.

NCR Corporation got a big order from Walmart this week that will allow the retailer to expand its self-checkout capability and potentially attract shoppers turned off by Walmart’s long checkout lines.

NCR said it would be installing 10,000 of its SelfServ Checkout lanes in more than 1,200 Walmart stores. That works out to about eight self checkouts per store, although the companies didn’t provide details concerning Walmart’s installed base of self-checkouts.

NCR expands platform with POS acquisition

NCR Corporation announced that it will acquire Radiant Systems, a leading provider of multichannel point-of-sale and managed host service solutions to the hospitality and specialty retail markets, through a cash tender offer of $28 per Radiant Systems share.

DULUTH, Ga. — NCR Corporation announced that it will acquire Radiant Systems, a leading provider of multichannel point-of-sale and managed host service solutions to the hospitality and specialty retail  markets, through a cash tender offer of $28 per Radiant Systems share. The equity purchase price of $1.2 billion has been approved by  the boards of directors of each company. NCR and Radiant Systems currently anticipate the transaction will close during the third quarter of 2011, subject to regulatory approval.
