Sam's Club and Amazon were among the retailers that earned top marks for customer service, according to the consulting firm Temkin Group.

WABAN, Mass. — Sam's Club and Amazon were among the retailers that earned top marks for customer service, according to the consulting firm Temkin Group.

According to the 2013 Temkin Experience Rankings which queried 10,000 U.S. consumers about customer service issues across 246 companies in 19 industries, Sam's Club and Amazon earned the top spots in the retail sector and RadioShack was the lowest rated retailer for the third consecutive year.

The app allows customers to play or download music stored in Cloud Player to their iPad, play music that is already stored on their device, and manage or create playlists.

SEATTLE — Amazon contends that 2012 was a record-breaking holiday season for businesses selling on its popular online Webstore platform.

Amazon reports that more than two million third-party sellers worldwide experienced record holiday growth, and unit growth solely from sellers in the U.S. increased more than 40% year-over-year. For the year, sellers on Amazon sold hundreds of millions of units worth tens of billions of dollars worldwide, according to the company, which did not provide an actual sales figure.

Staples and Amazon have teamed up to offer consumers a convenient way to receive packages from the online retailer.

NEW YORK — Staples and Amazon have teamed up to offer consumers a convenient way to receive packages from the online retailer. According to a Reuters report, Staples has agreed to install Amazon lockers in its U.S. stores.

With the lockers, online shoppers have an alternative shipping location for their packages, helping them avoid missed deliveries. According to Reuters, customers are sent an email code with a pickup code for opening the locker. Shoppers then have three days to retrieve the package.

Though 79 is just one point shy of what ForeSee considers a superior score on its annual top 100 online retailers for customer satisfaction list, Target should still be concerned as it was three points behind rival Walmart, and three points does make a difference.

ANN ARBOR, Mich.  — Walmart has put a considerable amount of time an effort into its digital business, and that appears to have been well worth it as the company achieved an 82, from a prior-year score of 79, on ForeSee's 2012 rating of Internet retailers. Achieving an 82 is impressive, as a score of 80 is the minimim needed to be considered "superior." The survey scored all retailers on the list out of a 100.

First quarter sales at the leading online retailer surged 34% to $13.2 billion during the first quarter ended March 31, as the company continues to enjoy a huge competitive advantage by allowing customers to avoid paying sales tax.

Despite surging sales, net income at the company declined 35% to $130 million or 28 cents a share, compared with $201 million or 44 cents a share the prior years. Operating income also declined considerably, dropping to $192 million in the first quarter compared with $322 million in first quarter 2011.

Best Buy has joined the likes of Amazon and eBay with the launch of its own third-party shopping destination.

MINNEAPOLIS — Best Buy has joined the likes of Amazon and eBay with the launch of its own third-party shopping destination. The move comes as Best Buy looks to grow its online business as it struggles to maintain leadership of a saturated consumer electronics market.

According to Best Buy, Best Buy Marketplace will increase the company's online product assortment by one third in time for holiday shopping.

WASHINGTON — Amazon and other online-only retailers have been dealt a major blow, as legislation introduced last week seeks to require such retailers to collect sales tax.

The Main Street Fairness Act would allow states that have adopted the Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement to require out-of-state sellers to collect sales tax whether they have a physical presence in their state or not. The bill would cover all “remote sellers,” which include online retailers, catalog merchants and “1-800” offers on radio and television.

NEW YORK - Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Costco, Lowe's and the Apple Store ranked tops with consumers in a survey by the global strategy firm OC&C Strategy Consultants.

The study, the OC&C Proposition Strength Index (the "Index"), surveyed over 2,700 U.S. consumers in an effort to understand consumer sentiment toward 50 of the country's leading retailers. The survey rates how consumers view core elements of a retailer's value proposition -- such as Value for Money, Customer Service, Product Selection and Product Quality.
