Shareholders of Coinstar, the company behind the ubiquitous RedBox dvd rental machines, have adopted the name Outerwall as a new corporate identify.

Shareholders of Coinstar, the company behind the ubiquitous RedBox dvd rental machines, have adopted the name Outerwall as a new corporate identify.

The name change was confirmed at the company's annual meeting of shareholder on June 27, but an official tally of voting results won’t be available until July 2.

Redbox, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Coinstar, has named Kiera Hynninen as its SVP marketing and Pamela Smith as its SVP finance.

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. — Redbox, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Coinstar, has named Kiera Hynninen as its SVP marketing and Pamela Smith as its SVP finance. Hynninen will report into Anne Saunders, president of Redbox, and will oversee the company's marketing efforts, including brand growth and a continued focus on strengthening consumer relationships. Smith will report into Galen Smith, incoming CFO of Coinstar, and will be responsible for managing financial planning and analysis, budgeting, financial strategy and deal support for the Redbox line of business.

Family Dollar is getting the Redbox treatment.

MATTHEWS, N.C. — Family Dollar is getting the Redbox treatment.

The discount store chain announced it inked a multiyear deal with the Coinstar subsidiary, through which Redbox kiosks will be installed at Family Dollar locations across the United States. Family Dollar customers will be able to rent new release DVDs at Redbox for $1.20 a night, Blu-ray discs for $2 a night and games for $2 a night.

Walgreens will reward 1 million customers at its stores nationwide on Thanksgiving Day with a free one-day Redbox DVD rental, the drug store chain announced.

DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens will reward 1 million customers at its stores nationwide on Thanksgiving Day with a free one-day Redbox DVD rental, the drug store chain announced.

The DVD rental, which will be given to the first 130 customers (not including prescription purchases) at the chain's more than 7,700 locations, will be valid at all Walgreens Redbox locations from Thanksgiving Day through Dec. 24.

Coinstar announced that Mitch Lowe has resigned as president of the company's DVD rental kiosk business, redbox.

BELLEVUE, Wash. — Coinstar announced that Mitch Lowe has resigned as president of the company's DVD rental kiosk business, redbox.  Lowe has resigned to pursue entrepreneurial and other interests, and will continue to serve as president until a successor is named. Coinstar has commenced an external search to identify a new president of redbox.

DALLAS - Blockbuster has announced the launch of its first national television advertising campaign in three years. For the first time since 2007, the company will promote itself on every major network and cable networks with its campaign, "Less Waiting. More Watching." The 30-second spot debuted Nov. 22 on programs like NBC's "Today" show and ABC's "Dancing with the Stars: Finale."
