MALIBU, Calif. — Jakks Pacific has acquired Ohio-based Maui Inc., a manufacturer and distributor of spring and summer activity toys, outdoor sports related toys, impulse toys including the popular Wave Hoop and Sky Ball products under the Maui Toys brand.

Jakks Pacific has acquired all of the shares of stock of Maui, a 24-year-old, privately held company, and its Hong Kong based affiliate A.S. Design Limited. The business is comprised of proprietary non-licensed brands.

In March there was a decline in the number of circulars overall, however, pages per flyer increased. The increase in pages was primarily due to a significant increase in Walmart and Toys"R"Us page counts. Much of the promotional activity was driven by Easter falling earlier in April as compared to 2011.

Walmart distributed an additional four-page flyer in the week of 3/11/2012; they also circulated two flyers instead one in most of the markets in the week of 3/4/2012. These additional flyers accounted for the increase total pages as compared with last year.

WAYNE, N.J. — Toys"R"Us has announced that its eighth annual fundraising campaign to benefit the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation was its most successful to date, raising $4 million and collecting more than 400,000 toys to help make the holidays brighter for kids in need across the United States. 

Walmart is facing some stiff competion for toy sales with Dollar General, as the company announced that it is going to head-to-head with toy retailers and discounters alike by offering more than 300 toys for $5 or less.

WAYNE, N.J. — Ahead of the holiday season, Toys"R"Us has announced the redesign of Imaginarium, further emphasizing its focus on exclusives this year. The company has revamped Imaginarium, the company's exclusive, specialty learning brand. The brand has been given an updated logo and 50 new products designed to promote childhood development by stimulating visual, auditory and manual senses. Toys"R"Us announced that it is inviting customers to experience the Imaginarium redesign at special in-store shops beginning Oct.

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. - Kmart announced it will offer last-minute holiday shoppers reduced prices on more than 1,400 must-have toys to help shoppers finish their Christmas lists. In addition to extended store hours, Kmart will offer special deals on toys starting today through Dec. 24.

Additionally, Kmart said it is offering customers special deals on popular items every kid has on their list. For example, when you purchase toys like Lego, Kung Zhu and remote control cars, deep discounts will be offered on the second purchase.
