Toys “R” Us has appointed Campbell Lennox as managing director of the company’s Australia unit, effective May 26. Lennox will report to Monika Merz, president, Toys “R” Us, Asia Pacific.

Lennox joins the company with more than 20 years of retail and management experience, including a series of roles of increasing responsibility in operations and merchandising. Technology continues to be a popular driver of new products, as evidenced by the number of toys designed specifically to work with the iPhone or iPad. However, there was also an apparent shift toward more simple toys, perhaps reflecting the current economy and the inability of many parents to shell out $100 on a toy that will only get played with a short while.

Wayne, N.J. — Toys“R”Us has promoted two executives in its U.S. merchandising division. Richard Barry has been named SVP, chief merchandising officer for Toys"R"Us, U.S., and  Lisa Harnisch has been appointed SVP general merchandising manager for toys, overseeing the merchandising function for the core toy, seasonal and learning product categories.

SAN JOSE, Calif. — eBay announced that it has partnered with Toys“R”Us, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Aeropostale for a new incentive for you to spend money online and in stores.

According to the companies, when customers spend $100 online using PayPal at Toys“R”Us or Babies“R”Us on eBay, ToysRUs.com, BabiesRUs.com, Dicks Sporting Goods or Aeropostale.com, they will earn $10 to shop in-store.

Toys“R”Us announced it will once again offer 10% back on purchases made by new and current members of its loyalty program, Rewards“R”Us, this holiday season.

WAYNE, N.J. — Toys“R”Us announced it will once again offer 10% back on purchases made by new and current members of its loyalty program, Rewards“R”Us, this holiday season. Beginning Sunday, Oct. 30 through Christmas Eve, Rewards“R”Us members can earn 10% back in “R”Us Dollars for every dollar spent on qualifying purchases. “R”Us Dollars earned will be delivered to members via e-mail in January and can be used toward savings on future in-store purchases, the company said.

Toys“R”Us reported that domestic comparable-store sales were down 2.1% for its fiscal first quarter.

WAYNE, N.J. — Toys“R”Us reported that domestic comparable-store sales were down 2.1% for its fiscal first quarter. Total sales were up 1.1% tp $2.6 billion. 

According to the company, sales were strongest in the learning and core toy categories, while the entertainment and seasonal categories struggled.

Toys“R”Us announced that it has named the former head of one of the world's largest toy companies to serve as president of its U.S. business.

WAYNE, N.J. – Toys“R”Us announced that it has named the former head of one of the world's largest toy companies to serve as president of its U.S. business. Neil Friedman, who most recently served as president Mattel Brands, will now oversee all merchandising, marketing, store operations, merchandise presentation, global sourcing and product development, as well as merchandise planning and allocation for Toys"R"Us' 866 stores and online business in the United States.

Toys“R”Us reported that net sales for the third quarter were $2.7 billion, an increase of 1.9% compared with prior year, due to new locations including Toys“R”Us Express stores as well as comparable-store net sales growth of 2.3% in the domestic segment and a foreign currency translation benefit of $17 million. These increases were partially offset by a decline of 2.9% in comparable-store net sales in the international segment.
