Former Pep Boys and Bass Pro Shops marketing executive Ron Stoupa has joined the Sports Authority as executive vice president and chief marketing officer.

Former Pep Boys and Bass Pro Shops marketing executive Ron Stoupa has joined the Sports Authority as executive vice president and chief marketing officer.

Stoupa will be responsible for leading the strategic development and oversight of the company’s marketing plans. The Englewood, Co.-based company operates 466 locations throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

Walgreens Boot Alliance will be looking to fill some big shoes, as Thomas Sabatino Jr., executive VP, global chief legal and administrative officer, will be leaving the company to join Hertz Global Holdings effective Feb.9. 

Walgreens Boot Alliance will be looking to fill some big shoes, as Thomas Sabatino Jr., executive VP, global chief legal and administrative officer, will be leaving the company to join Hertz Global Holdings effective Feb.9.

Sabatino will join Hertz Global Holdings as senior executive VP, chief administrative officer and general counsel.

Sabatino will remain in his current role with Walgreens Boots Alliance through the end of January to ensure a smooth transition of his current responsibilities.

Teen and pre-teen retailer Five Below landed two senior executives from Walmart.com and Ascena Retail Group for key roles as it looks to accelerate an already rapid pace of growth.

Walmart.com president and CEO Joel Anderson will join Five Below as president in July to oversee all aspects of merchandising, stores and marketing. Eric Specter, most recently EVP and chief integration officer for Ascena, will serve as Five Below’s chief administrative officer and oversee supply chain, information technology and real estate.

Vendors are leaving billions on the table because they forget to market to the chief marketing officer (CMO) rather than just the CIO and IT department.

According to a new study from IHL Group called “Hidden Treasure – The CMO’s Budget in Retail,” in 2015, the amount of IT purchased through the CMO’s budget will amount to $7.5 billion in North America. This figure is nearly as much as will be spent on core POS for 2015, or 12% of all North American IT spend for retail and hospitality in North America.

The person behind the retro marketing campaign at RadioShack is out.

Jennifer Warren, chief marketing officer at RadioShack, is the latest top executive to leave the troubled electronics retailer as it tries to stave off bankruptcy. The company recently replaced its CFO for the third time this year as it reshuffled restructuring advisers.

Warren joined RadioShack in April 2013 and was one of CEO Joe Magnacca’s first hires when he was putting together his turnaround team.

Dov Charney, the controversial founder of American Apparel, has been fired "for cause" as CEO, the company said.

Charney was suspended as president and CEO of the hipster apparel chain in June for alleged misconduct and violations of company policy. The decision was made by the board’s “suitability committee,” which was formed to oversee an internal investigation in the wake of Charney's suspension.

Struggling retailer RadioShack has a new hope for the holidays: Weird Al Yankovch. 

Eighties sensation Weird Al Yankovic is offering RadioShack a new hope for the holidays.

Yankovic is appearing in the chain's holiday ad campaign called "Gift Smart.” In the ad, he sings his own unique take on the holiday song “Toyland.”

"He's tech-savvy, smart and a social media guru," said RadioShack chief marketing officer Jennifer Warren. Yankovich has more than 3.5 million Twitter followers and 1.6 million Facebook fans. "I don't think there could be a better fit for our brand right now."

Marc Dietz has joined big data analytics provider RetailNext as chief marketing officer.

Dietz joins RetailNext from IBM where he led worldwide marketing for the company's SaaS portfolio, including multiple acquisitions such as DemandTec, Coremetrics, and Silverpop. Prior to the $440 million acquisition of DemandTec by IBM, Dietz led all marketing efforts at the cloud-based analytics provider for retailers and consumer products companies. He helped grow DemandTec from an early stage through IPO in 2007, and the IBM transaction in 2012, according to RetailNext.

The October survey of 1,000 adults representing the U.S. general population, explored topics such as what motivates consumers to purchase shoes, how much consumers prefer to spend on shoes, consumers' emotional attachment to shoes, and what types of shoes Americans favor overall.  The survey was conducted in celebration of National Shoe Lover Day on Saturday, October 25.
